UMBRELLA FESTIVAL " THE UMBRELLA FESTIVAL , IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR ANNUAL FESTIVALS IN CHIANG MAI PROVINCE . IT IS CELEBRATED AT BOR SANG VILLAGE IN THE DIRECTION OF SUNKHAMPAENG .12 KMS. AWAY FROM CHIANG MAI.

Once the capital of Lanna Kingdom, Chiangmai is nowadays famed for its ancient temples, distinctive arts and crafts, stupendous scenery and unique Northern cuisine. Known as the main crafts center of Thailand, local craftsmen produce a wide variety of handicrafts such as wooden carving, silverware, lacquerware, fabrics, ceramics and silk reflecting centuries of Lanna expertise.
The villagers of Bo Sang and San Kamphaeng in Chiangmai have long carried their fame for their artistic skill in specializing beautiful and unique handicrafts. Bo Sang’s paper umbrellas made from saa paper, the bark of a mulberry tree native to northern Thailand are very famous for their dazzling colors and unique floral motifs, while San Kamphaeng is renowned for its silk and a wide range of handicraft products such as teak furniture, lacquerware and celadon. Bo Sang Umbrella & San Kamphaeng Handicrafts Fair is organized on the third weekend of every January at Bo Sang Handicraft Centre in Chiang Mai.
The fair features colorful umbrella making and painting, contests, exhibitions, as well as cultural performances, sales of handicraft products, and a Miss Bo Sang beauty contest. Visitors can buy value-for-money Bo Sang\'s paper umbrellas.
VISITORS WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO SEE THE DEMONSTRATION OF LAC-QUER WARE, CELADON, CERAMICS, SILVERWARE, WOOD CARVING, COTTON AND THAI SILK.
